Life and all its Quirks

I was just reflecting on where I’ve been and where I’m going, and let me tell you friends it’s been quite a journey. From losing my father, beginning a career as an author, falling into poverty, getting into yet not going to law school, going to graduate school, and racking up school debt, life has developed in a way I never could have imagined. Through it all I’ve learned one very important lesson.

Life never really is what you imagined it to be, and that’s entirely beautiful. As we get older we tend to wash the wonder out of the world, planning and conceptualizing what our life’s going to be…but in the end we really don’t know.

And that’s liberating.

We’re only as trapped as we let ourselves become. I was stuck in a fatalist mindset for some time, convinced my future was bleak and there was only a handful of options.

In life there’s always options, and that’s what makes it wonderful. No matter what situation you are in there is choice. There is opportunity for change. There is the ability to learn and become something more. It’s out there…whether we open our mind to these opportunities and take them is entirely another question.

But my point is you aren’t trapped. Life doesn’t have to be a box. There’s so much out there, so much to enjoy, and so much to accomplish. Will you accomplish all your dreams? Probably not, but that’s no reason not to try. Sometimes the journey is more valuable than the destination, and every little diversion we take, every little bump we encounter, well that just builds our character even more.

Keep being awesome

  1. Thanks for the follow! I completely agree with your take on life and its journey. Life isn’t about the destination, it really is about the journey forwards, backwards, sideways as long as you are still feeling, that is what counts. :)
